Growing up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, service has always been a large part of my life. I have often shared with others about my youth and my mother’s influence in my life as I struggled to fit in. My mother taught me that my worth as a child of God is infinite. Something that immeasurable can be hard to comprehend. That is why my mother felt it important that I take part in service at an early age. Now, as an adult, I have a firm testimony in the power of service; it blesses the lives of everyone involved. It gives those who are freely giving service a divine sense of self-worth and opens all hearts to the spirit of the Lord.
President Uchtdorf said; “Often, the answers to our prayer does not come while we’re on our knees but while we’re on our feet serving the Lord and serving those around us.” As a latter day saint working to clean the yard of an elderly neighbor, the truthfulness of President Uchtdorf words will be evident. As the elderly neighbor starts to cry tears of joy, you will understand more the great impact for good your life can bring to others. These are the moments when we are closest to God and His will. In these moments we can feel the promptings of the Holy Ghost and the love God has for us.
Each of us has a story to tell, a time when our lives were greatly blessed because of the service of others. We want to highlight these stories. During the month of December, we will give away a “Bless More” necklace and tie clip each week. To enter, share your story of when someone served and blessed your life or how you felt after providing service. Post it to instagram or facebook with the hashtag “blessmore”.
